"A United Group of All Kinds of People"

The National Naval Officers Association (NNOA) of Monterey is a military organization comprised of "All Kinds of People." Our Chapter is located at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) in Monterey, California.  NPS has a unique and opportunistic environment that gives us a multi-cultural platform to operate from.

While our desired composition is one of ethnic diversity, our desired mission is one of ethnic representation, professionalism, unity, and pride.  Our reason for existence can be summed up five bullets:

bullet

Improve and assist in minority officer recruitment, retention, and professional development.

bullet

Identify minority problem areas and bring them to the attention of cognizant authorities.

bullet

Encourage maximum minority participation in all areas of the services and related military organizations.

bullet

Promote camaraderie amongst members.

bullet

Assist in establishing and maintaining a positive image of the naval services in minority communities.

FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

1. QUESTION:  How do I know whether or not I am a member of the NNOA?

ANSWER: Membership is tentatively informal.  The two quickest ways to become a member is to (1) sign up for this potluck or (2) email the NNOA STAFF  and provide your Full Name, Rank, Service, email address, and phone number.  Yet another way to enroll is to simply show up at the NNOA Meetings and request membership.  Our meetings take place on the 3rd Thursday of every month in the Ingersol bldg, room 260 at 1200.

2. QUESTION:  How many sporting events does NNOA Sponsor?

ANSWER:  NNOA currently sponsors one basketball team and one volleyball team.  Sign-ups for the teams will be clearly broadcasted far in advance.  Make sure that you are on the NNOA mailing list, so that you stay informed.  Also, we are recruiting a softball team and any other sporting events that the membership is willing to participate in.  Sporting surveys will soon be broadcasted via email or website.  Look for the postings, and respond to them.

3.  QUESTION:  I can barely keep my grades up.  Will NNOA functions take up too much of my study time?

ANSWER:  Hmmm... If you have made it this far in your career, then more than likely the problem is not "Study Time," it is "Study Integrity" better known as Time Management.  One of the NNOA's primary objectives is to promote PROFESSIONAL OFFICER DEVELOPMENT!  NNOA is a disciplined association that will always remind you of WHO YOU ARE and how you are expected to handle your business.  By participating in the events held by the local NNOA chapter, you will surround yourself with overachieving officers of every rank.  By default, such an environment will (1) sharpen your leadership skills, (2) refine your military knowledge base, (3) rekindle your study ethics, (4) improve your social skills, and (5) expose you to a welcoming civilian community.  After all of this "Development," you should ACE every class!
