2 0 0 4 Academic Scholarship Recipients
Mr. Andrew Mahone Ms. Shrishti Nand Seaside High Monterey High Since 1980, the Monterey Chapter of the National Naval Officers Association (NNOA), in partnership with the Naval Postgraduate School, has made a continuing contribution to the educational development of youth residing on the Monterey Peninsula. This contribution involves a number of highly successful programs, including; youth mentoring, academic tutoring, and the annual awarding of financial scholarships to college bound high school seniors. The NNOA Scholarship Fund is financially supported in its entirely by corporate donations and proceeds received during fundraising activities, such as the Martin Luther King, Jr. program. Each year since 1980, NNOA has awarded an average of four individual scholarship grants to Monterey Peninsula high school seniors, ranging from $500 to $1500 for each award. The NNOA Scholarship Selection Committee selects awardees on the basis of academic record, potential to succeed, personal statement of education and career goals, and unusual personal or family circumstances. An equally important selection criterion is the leadership demonstrated, while participating in school, civic, and extracurricular activities. It is tradition for NNOA to honor scholarship recipients at an awards banquet. This year’s banquet will be held in conjunction with the Coalition of Scholarship Organizations’ 6th Annual Scholarship Breakfast, on Saturday, June 12, 2004 at 9:00 am at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Seaside, California. We are proud to announce this year’s award recipients, Mr. Andrew Mahone of Seaside High School and Ms. Shrishti Nand of Monterey High School. Both recipients were awarded a $750.00 scholarship for the institution of their choice. To date, both recipients have not decided on a college.
